The story of our pumpkin lanterns

One maker, no two faces alike

One maker in Estonia is behind every Kõrvitsakoda lantern. Every face is drawn and cut by hand. No two are alike.

  2. Drawing a lantern’s face by hand

II · A face of its own

Every face is drawn and cut by hand. One grins, another frowns.

  3. A finished lantern glowing in the dark

III · A light in the dark

A ruffled rim and an orange shell that won’t rot like a real pumpkin. A little light brings the face to life.

Handmade in Estonia

Kõrvitsakoda lanterns are handmade from cloth and concrete. A ruffled rim, an orange glow and small differences in shape give each one its own character.

The face

Every lantern’s eyes, nose and mouth are drawn and cut by hand. Every cut is a little different, so every lantern has its own expression: one grins, another frowns.

A pumpkin that won’t rot

A real pumpkin wilts and rots. A concrete lantern can be kept for another autumn: look after it, store it carefully and bring it out again. A little light brings that familiar face back from the dark.

Every lantern is one of a kind

In the shop you see each lantern’s own photos. The one in the photo is exactly the one you get. When a lantern sells, its page stays up so you can see what’s been made.
